The sun has finally come out and here in Munich, this means throwing on an extra sweater and making your way to the beer garden. People are restless after the cold grey winter and eager to shake it off.
But sunshine is not the only change that signals the start of spring. The blossoming trees, birds chirping, feeling the sun on your face…And we start yearning to get out into the sunshine.
We also start to notice dust that had been hidden in our home, a pale complexion and a few extra kilos on our bodies. With nature awakening, spring is a glorious time of rebirth and renewal.
There’s a sense of hope in the air, this lighthearted energy of change and new beginnings. That makes spring the perfect season not just for cleaning out our closets but also for re-energizing our bodies and breaking out of our old routines.
This post has some tips that will help you spring clean your life and make the rest of 2018 the best time of your life.
1 | Spring clean your home
Household mess can contribute to stress in people’s lives. Steam clean your house, wash your curtains and windows, and clear out your cupboards. Get rid of that half-filled box of chickpeas and the soy sauce that has been sitting for ages that you’re afraid to use. Make some room for some seasonal additions like spring onions, lettuce and asparagus.
2| Declutter your home
Clutter in our physical environments energetically blocks the flow of abundance. Let go of excess and make room for new energy. You know how it works: if you haven’t used it in the last year, BYE!
You’ll soon discover how many excess items you have around in your home and how much additional room you’ll have if you throw a few things away.
3| Makeover your workout mindset
Exercise shouldn’t be a struggle – instead of dreading it, go outside and enjoy the nature. Think of it as the nicest gift you can give to your body. Replace the boring treadmill run with a jog outside. Go for a hike, take a bike ride, or play tennis. Just do whatever you enjoy and works for your lifestyle and don’t think of what workout is trendy now.
4 | Detox your body
Our modern world is full of toxins, and our bodies take in these toxins and store them…unless we actively help get rid of them. And there is no better season than spring to do that. According to Chinese medicine, spring is the ideal time to build your energy and detoxify your body from the “hibernation” of winter. There are so many ways to do that: from starting a completely plant-based diet to a moderate vegetarian version or simply removing processed and packaged foods from your diet. Do whatever feels good for you and fits your lifestyle. The idea is to cleanse your body from all the chemicals that you have been stocking up during the winter.
I just completed a two-week vegan diet and I have to tell you it feels so-o-o good! My metabolism drastically improved, I’ve got a clearer skin and I shed a couple of kilos. And it so much easier than I thought it would be!
5| Get rid of toxic relationships and obligations
From time to time we all have to do things we don’t necessarily enjoy. But when you find yourself dreading yet another day with a friend, it’s time to re-evaluate your priorities.
Ask yourself: If this relationship making me feel unnatural or bad about myself. Does it bring any value to my life and is it worth it?
You don’t have to say yes to every invitation. You don’t have to ‘suck it up’ and tolerate everything – safeguard your own energy.
6| Spring clean your digital life
Get rid of pictures, documents, files, etc. that you don’t need anymore and that are taking up space on your devices. Unsubscribe from newsletters you don’t read, delete your spam folders and unfollow unhealthy connections. When in doubt, cut it out. If it’s not adding anything to your digital world, why keep it around?
